Terry Grant Nyirenda was born on 12 June 2017, to Ndugu Grant and Myra Nicole Nyirenda.
After being treated for two infections between August and October that caused a rapid drop in his blood level, further tests were run and Terry was found to have Biliary Atresia.
This is a rare, life threatening liver disease in infants where bile flow is blocked. The bile is trapped inside the liver and causes continuous damage (Cirrhosis). Current supportive measures include vitamin and mineral supplements.
Terry requires a liver transplant and this liver must be from a family member. Unfortunately, no such procedure can be done in his home country Malawi. He needs to go to India for it as soon as possible.
Terry will need to be there for at least two months for the tests, surgery and post surgery observations. He will need to be there with his parents as they need to be screened for donation. The $40,000 includes all the pre-surgery tests that he will need, the surgery itself for him and his donor, hospital stay and further necessary care post-surgery.
Terry needs this procedure with greater urgency each day that passes.
