This is Max, he is a 5 month old Staffy x Lab that my son and I adopted from foster care. He is the sweetest soul, he loves cuddles and making people smile. As he is growing, his back legs and hips are not forming the way they should be. Poor Max is in pain constantly due to his hips and pelvis and his range of movement is limited. The good news is, surgery now would fix the issue and prevent any long term problems. The bad news is, it needs to happen within 6 days, and as a single mum that's already struggling to pay for everything, $3600 is a lot of money for me to come up with overnight. I can't stand to see him in pain, we have only had him for 3 weeks and my son is so attached to him, he has become his emotional support animal and has already really helped him deal with the feelings of anxiety and grief around my ex and I parting ways earlier this year.
As for the surgery, because we caught it early, they can fuse together one of the growth plates at the bottom of the pelvis, which will cause the hip bones to grow up and over so they sit where they are meant to be. This means instead of multiple surgeries throughout his adult life, he can hopefully just have the one. It's also way cheaper and less invasive than what future surgery would be. This can only happen though if he has surgery within 6 days from now, or he will be too old.
If we don't get the surgery done within the next week, Max will need to exist on pain relief until he is old enough for the first of the more invasive surgeries, once he is an adult. He is only 5 months old and it's limiting him so much already in his day to day life. A puppy shouldn't have to struggle to jump and play.
It would mean the absolute world to my son and I if you could help out in anyway possible.
Thank you so much xx
