Little Lucy Kay Jones was born July 16th at 12:11 PM, weighing 6 pounds 12 ounces. Delivery went wonderfully, and Jeremie was even able to fly from Cali and make it in the nick of time!
At about 7:00 PM, Lucy underwent some tests and x-rays to find an issue with her esophagus called Esphageal astresia. "Esophageal atresia (EA) is a birth defect in which part of the child’s esophagus is missing. Instead of forming a tube between the mouth and the stomach, the esophagus grows in two separate segments that do not connect. EA is a lethal disease unless treated. Without a working esophagus, the baby cannot swallow or feed normally."
To get her better, she needs surgery. She was transported via ambulance yesterday to Primary's Children Hospital. As of this morning, we know that the surgery will take place today. The goal is to try to see everything better and fix as much as they can. She may need additional surgery next week. We also know that she may continue to require special care over the next year.
Needless to say, medical expenses will get high very quickly. In Sabra and Jeremie's situation, they will need to pay their $4000 deductible for this year, and next. This fund has been set up to provide any little help to the Jones' as they go through this unexpected situtaion. If you can and would like to donate, it was would be greatly appreciated. A benefit account has also been set up at Mountain America Credit Union. To make a contributiuon to that account, ask the teller to deposit to the "Little Lucy Benefit Account". Checks need to be made out to the name of the account.
