WHO IS LOTTIE?
Lottie is the sweetest, most beautiful 9 month old kitten. She has fought to be on this earth, from a 4 week old orphan, and multiple vet trips, she is showing us she is worth saving. Lottie has been in her rescue foster home since 4 weeks old, but dreams of one day being healthy enough to have a forever home of her own.
Can you help lottie reach her dream of being happy, healthy, and in a forever?
Lottie has accumulated the hearts of many over the past 9 months, we adore her beyond words. We want her to live a long and happy life.
WHAT WILL THE FUNDS BE USED FOR?
Lottie is in need of a CT scan on her liver in the next few weeks to assess the prognosis of the liver shunts, and if she is a candidate for surgery.
WHAT IS GOING ON?
Little Lottie has liver shunts. Her body cycles toxins as blood vessels are not attached to where they are meant to be. This is a genetic defect.
Lottie has survived to 9 months old, and 1.8kg. She has had episodes of swelling on the brain over the past few months, but is mainly controlled with two types of medications twice daily, as well as an extremely strict veterinary prescribed diet made of KD dry and wet.
Lottie has had blood and urinary tests today, the bill came to $618.57. I will get results via phone call when they are ready.
Over the past few months she has had multiple blood tests, looking at different aspects of her illness.
The vet is also hoping to have CT scans in the near future to see if the type of liver shunt she has is operable. This is quoted to be $1,555.29.
If it is not operable, her short term quality of life is decent, but her life will be extremely short. She will need to stay on her strict prescribed diet and see the vet monthly for medications.
If it is operable, it may cost approximately $4,000. I am yet to get the specific quote for this. But she would have a higher chance at a longer and happier life, medication free.
Currently, Lottie is happy, the quality of life she has is good. But this will not stay this way forever. Medications have side effects, so do illnesses. She is currently in heat, which is a good sign because it means her body is doing ok.
LOTTIE'S BACKGROUND
Lottie was handed in at a vet in December 2016, she was about 4 weeks old and absolutely tiny. Underweight, mucky eyes, flea and worm ridden.
For months we struggled to put weight on her, she would sleep a lot and I just was not happy with her progress. I had that gut feeling. Back and forth to many different vets and multiple clinics, finally Dr Pete at Liz park suggested liver shunts.
This started the ball rolling. Lottie was put on different medications and a change of diet. We went through different dosages and different types, and we finally have settled on lactalose and an antibiotic twice a day.
We are now in the hands of specialist vet David Davey at The Animal Emergency Centre Norwood.
