WHO
We are Little Legs Fundraising formed by Carley Denton and Lisa Roylance.
WHY
No matter how long you have been in dachshunds we should all be thinking and doing what is best for this breed.
We are all passionate about the health, welfare and standards of the breed and this is why we have decided to set up this group and page.
There are lots of groups up and running already and also fundraising being done at the moment to help dogs that are already suffering with IVDD.
Even celebrities like Dec, who is owned by a Dachshund, can go through what many of you have already. The hope of this fundraising is to get to the bottom of what is causing the problems; is it hereditary? Breeding? lifestyle? or just one of those things? The only way to know for sure is to get as many dogs as we can screened
WHAT
This is where we come in. Our aim is to start at the beginning, before any injury or back issues have arisen.
We have devised a strategy and fundraising programme to bring the cost of screening down. The Breed Council have secured a grant from the Kennel Club Charitable Trust to bring the cost down from £300 to £200. Our mission is to bring this down further by raising £15,000. While many people look primarily at the PRA status of prospective puppies, IVDD is a much more prevalent issue and we want to help!
We are looking at raising these funds to help and encourage people to take part in the IVDD screening programme. X-ray screening and scoring have been used for several years in Scandinavia and we are working towards getting as many dogs screened as possible.
The Dachshund breed council pay the cost of the scoring as long as you have the X-rays done at one of the vets that are participating in the scheme.
We need your help to spread the word and even a small contribution can make a big difference. Thank you in advance for your support.
