Little Ellie's Journey for Life

Donation protected
Ellie is a 7-week-old mixed breed puppy with the double merle mutation who was found alone on the streets of Guatemala. As a double merle, she is blind in her left eye, likely deaf, and has kyphosis (a hunched back). None of these will prevent her from living a happy life, however they will make it extremely difficult for her to remain in Guatemala; she will likely require special veterinary care for her eyes later on in life and there are no veterinary ophthalmologists in or near Guatemala. Furthermore, in Ellie's current condition, it is very unlikely that she would be able to survive as a street dog for much longer. As a result, the best way for Ellie to have a normal and healthy life is for her to come to the United States and find a family that will be capable of caring for her and providing her with any medical treatment that she may need.

These funds will be used to pay for Ellie's treatment for the next 8 weeks, transportation to the United States once she is 16 weeks old and has been rabies vaccinated, and any initial medical treatments that she may need when she arrives. All additional funds will be donated to the owners of the Fantasma Animal Rescue, who will be caring for Ellie for the next 8 weeks until she is old enough to come to the US. In the event that Ellie does not make it, all of the funds will be donated to the Fantasma Animal Rescue to benefit other Guatemalan street dogs that are in need of help. Ellie will be old enough to come to the US by the end of September, so I am hoping to have this fundraiser completed by September 21, 2018.

Ellie is a very special little pup and she truly deserves the opportunity to have a life in the US. When she was first brought to the FARVets spay/neuter clinic, she was extremely malnourished, dehydrated, and infested with chewing lice. She had almost no muscle on her body and had a difficult time walking and even staying awake for more than a few minutes at a time. Through all of this, however, she never stopped wagging her tail. She is extremely sweet and loving and she absolutely loves snuggling with people while she sleeps. She's being treated for the chewing lice and has been eating and drinking on her own. Everyday her physical status improves, and after just the first 3 days of being fed and receiving fluids, she was able to navigate two steps in order to go outside and then come back in all on her own. I can't wait to see how Ellie does over the next 8 weeks, and I will post any important updates on her progress.

Ellie and I would be incredibly grateful for any amount of money that you feel comfortable donating to her cause. At her age, Ellie has a chance at a better life without having her personality impacted by her experience as a starving street dog, so the opportunity to move to the US will truly be life-changing for her.
