Redding is an excellent Tenderloin public school reflecting our neighborhood in the best possible way. It's one of the most diverse and meaningfully integrated schools in San Francisco. Our families speak 25 different languages and we work to translate communication into English, Spanish and Arabic, the most commonly spoken languages in our school community
We serve 255 students who are:
81.2% low income
50.6% English Language Learners
7.5% Students with Disabilities
11.2% Families in Transition (Homeless)
0.4% Foster Youth
10% African American
26% Asian
28% Hispanic or Latino
18% Arab/Middle Eastern
3% Two or more racial/ethnic identities
1% Native American
6% Filipino
1% Pacific Islander
3% White (non-Hispanic)
Redding is urgently fundraising $20,000 this winter to cover a cut to our school site budget that resulted in the loss of literacy specialist work hours. So far we have been able to get half way there, thanks to the following:
Twitter for $5,000
Lever for $2,500
Zoosk for $2,500
This role is crucial in providing targeted literacy support to students who need extra help. Our families have worked hard and it has taken us several years to raise close to $20,000 for a new computer lab. We have very active families, but we are not well off, and we are unable to raise large amounts of money quickly to cover such a big cut. For that reason, we are reaching out to our broader community to help us meet this urgent need!
