Lita's Medical Bills

My niece Lita has suffered serious injuries from a freak accident. She was burned by boiling water and has undergone surgeries that have been incredibly successful.  She is doing very well but has a long road to recovery.

I have flown from Washington state to be with my sister and her family during this tough time (due to the kindness of others). I have been blown away by Lita's positivity and the endless work to keep her healthy and healing put in by my sister and her husband.

Today, Lita had a follow-up appointment (one of many) to see if she needs further surgeries. I cannot describe the feeling I had when I saw my sister's face when she was told that she must pay a hefty copay for Lita to even be seen. She was then told that she would have to pay as much each subsequent appointment. While we knew that the medical expenses would be hefty, we assumed that due to the emergent nature of the injury, my sister and her family would have the opportunity to make payments. 

After having reviewed my sister's insurance policy, I can see that her deductible is quite large and she will have several thousands of dollars to pay in bills in the future. My immediate concern however, is her ability to take my niece to these crucial follow-up appointments. 

Melody has not asked me to do this, however with everything that she has gone through in last few days, I could tell this news was a bit too much. It is time to ask for help and I'm not sure that she would do it, so I will :)  No parent should be left weighing their child's emergency medical care with financial stability. Especially parents that work as hard as Lita's.

Many people have helped so graciously with food, rides to and from school for Lita's sister, toys for Lita's "house arrest," plane tickets for me to be with my family, and a multitude of prayers and well-wishes. If you have previously helped in any capacity, please do not feel pressured to contribute, what you have already done is so huge. If you can help at all with these costs, it is greatly appreciated.
