Lisa’s Breast Cancer Battle

My sister- in- law Lisa has battled breast cancer over the past 10 years. Fortunately, the first 2 diagnosis' were treated without aggressive treatment because it was encapsulated. Unfortunately, third time was not a charm. Lisa was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer in May 2018. Due to the biopsy/scan and oncologist concern based on the prior two diagnosis', it was determined to treat Lisa with heavy doses of chemotherapy and a double mastectomy as if she had Stage 4 cancer. As a result, Lisa lost her hair almost instantly and was unable to work due to the heavy toll the chemo treatment had on her body. The last year has been a huge battle for Lisa both medically and financially but she always keeps a smile on her face and continues to offer her help to anyone in need  instead of asking for it.  In this respect, Lisa is an incredible person, putting everyone before herself.  The financial burden of the treatment even with medical insurance has taken a toll on her family. Until you experience a medical tragedy it is hard to understand how little insurance really covers when the medical bills are astronomical. Even the fact the that the wig Lisa wore from the time she lost her hair from the chemo, is not covered by insurance. It is difficult enough to fight for your life, it is that much more difficult with the added financial stress when your bills start becoming delinquent. Lisa is doing her part for her family of trying to heal.
