Lisa Dirksen's "Kids Memories" Fund

So many of Lisa's friends and family have asked what they can do to help the family during this time of grief. Truthfully there is not much to be done. But many, like me, want to do something to honor Lisa and her memory because her time with us was too short and we grieve for her children who have lost their mother.

2 weeks before Lisa went to be with her Savior I had the chance to ask a difficult question. What can I do to continue your legacy....since you won't be here, how can I honor your memory and help to complete the tasks you would have been working on if you were still here. Without missing a beat she said that she wanted to make sure that her children's birthdays were always special and remembered.

Lisa loved, more than just about anything, being a mom. She carried tremendous guilt that because of the pain of the past few years that she was unable to take vacations and create those special memories with her kids. She dreamed of taking her children to Disneyland once the cancer was in remission, a dream was not to happen.

I lieu of flowers or other gifts Sam and the rest of Lisa's family has agreed to create a  "memories mom wanted us to have" fund. We can't give them their mother, but we can fulfill her requests so that her kids know that she not only fought as long as she could to stay with them, but that she still cares for them from her place beside her Savior.

This fund will be used in its entirety to that end...to provide a fun vacation, or great birthday party and holiday experiences for them. 

The family is going to be ok financially. We offer this opportunity not out of their need, but more out of our need to make sense of Lisa's loss and to honor her and give tribute to her.
