Arthur Isibo is an international student from whose dream has always been to attend school in the United States. Much different than growing up in America, Arthur grew up in Rwanda, where an atrocity such as genocide took place in the 1990’s. Although no one in his immediate family was killed, some of his friend’s parents were murdered. Arthur came to the US alone and began to pursue his dream of receiving an education in the United States.
Arthur’s parents believe strongly in education. As far back as Arthur can remember, his mother ran a small school in their town. The children that attended the school were not always able to pay, but she turned no one away. In addition to teaching the school children, she also taught young women skills to help them support themselves and helped people suffering from HIV.
In trying to pursue that dream, he overcame many obstacles and was accepted into Eastern Nazarene College, in Quincy MA. The college worked with Arthur to set up a payment plan, scholarships, grants and a work study leaving his parents responsible for the remainder of his tuition. His father lost his job this year and is unable to send funds right now to cover Arthur’s tuition. We have a three fold plan to help him:
1. Raise $4,500 to cover his bill for first semester.
2. Raise another $4,500 to cover his bill for second semester. (This has been cut in half from his original bill of $8,000 as he was offered off campus housing by a neighbor of the college which will cut out his room and board costs for the semester!!!)
3. Only after these two bills are paid off, he can then apply for scholarships and loans for the rest of his college.
It is critical that Arthur pay his fall semester bill of $4,500 ASAP.
Arthur is very driven and has taken steps to plan for his future. After completing his education, he plans to invest and help his mother’s school, as well as use the tools he learns here to help his home country, Rwanda.
While Arthur continues to contend for an education in America, he does need help right now. Please consider contributing to support Arthur right now – any amount would be appreciated – it all adds up and we can reach our goal! Many of us who have grown up in this country, expect to go to college and are very grateful when we graduate. It is a privilege for all of us to contribute because it is written: “To whom much is given, much is required.”
