Lindsay's Cancer Battle

Donation protected
One year ago, Lindsay Elworthy completed chemotherapy treatment for a highly aggressive breast cancer (Triple Negative Breast Cancer). She has since undertaken the challenge of rebuilding her health and life.

With new priorities that a journey with cancer brings, Lindsay, her husband, Ryan, and their two children (ages 2 and 5) are on their way to a much healthier lifestyle.

Striving for more balance in their lives, the whole family has changed their diet and is focusing on exercise, taking more time for loved ones, and self-care. Lindsay found a golden lining to her breast cancer: it came at a point in their daughters’ lives that they will grow up with a healthy lifestyle and will know no different.

But Lindsay’s reprieve from cancer was short. She has recently learned she is positive for dormant tumor cells in her bone marrow.

Lindsay and Ryan went to Philadelphia last month to take part in a clinical study. They are doing bone marrow aspirates on women with highly aggressive breast cancers and finding out that 10% of these women will have these dormant cancer cells. Of these 10%, 16-52% will see recurrences.

The positive results for the study made Lindsay eligible for a clinical trial that is testing the effectiveness of a couple different drugs in killing these cancer cells. They know that two drugs in combination are effective. The trial is trying to figure out which drug (or drug combination), and what dosing, is most effective.

So, after finally getting on the path to better health, Lindsay and her family are embarking on a new journey. Lindsay must begin a daily medication and travel every two weeks to Philadelphia for exams for the next two months and monthly for the following 4-10 months (a total of 6-12 months), in the hope of defeating the cancer cells before recurrence, and ultimately defeating cancer for good.

The trial covers some of the treatment costs, but the necessary travel and time off work is costly. We hope you can find it in your heart to help Lindsay and her family defray these unforeseen expenses.

For those who followed Lindsay’s CaringBridge page (https://www.caringbridge.org/ visit/lindsayelworthy) during her initial cancer treatment, know that Lindsay hopes to get it back up and running sometime in the near future.
