Linda's Last Semester

Hello! My name is Linda Frank and up until very recently, I have been a student in the sculpture program at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. This is my senior year I have one semester to go and there's nothing I want more than to finish my studies here, along with the amazing colleagues from whom I have learned so much. Unfortunately, without some kind of large-scale assistance, that may not be possible. 

I have needed to take a semester off in the past, and it is very difficult to work full-time to raise the money and stay motivated to return for how much the time and the education costs me. It is crucial that I finish sooner for the longer it takes me the more loans I will have to take out to do so. I have loved having the opportunity to grow, work and create at this school, and I'm heartbroken at the prospect of having to withdraw for a year  to raise the money and finish my last semester next spring. 

My work deals with my experiences as an American woman and my estrangement and fascination with how my Samoan heritage plays out in an environment in which almost no one else shares this heritage and even I feel disconnected to it culturally. I seek to make performances which test out how live interaction between me and my audiences can be both extremely playful and fun while also uncompromisingly clear in its critique of the why and how of my experience of myself as “other” “native” or “exotic”. I've come a long way, recieved the highest scholarship Pratt offers, but cannot reach my goal without some help.
