Well … it's back!

Things certainly didn't turn out the way I thought they would. I was, in fact, counting on a lot more time in remission. But remission is only remission until it's not. And it's not. Nope … it's not a rumour … I'm back in chemotherapy again. The 'cocktail' this year is different and stronger and is knocking the heck out of my system. The harsh reality is that I'm out of commission for about five days following the infusion while I deal with nausea and fatigue. Add to those five days the time spent travelling back and forth to Comox (a 100km round trip) for various tests between infusions, and there's not much of the month left. Because of that, it's been difficult to keep up with work and life in general. I can get the dishes and laundry done … but frankly, working has become a challenge and finances are a BIG worry. Gas, drugs and supplements not covered by PharmaCare, paying the bills and putting food in the fridge is constantly on my mind ... as well as surviving metatacized Ovarian Cancer! Your donation is very much appreciated and incredibly helpful!

Just recently, my friend Micki Findlay decided she wanted to help and posted the following on FaceBook.
_____________

“Dear friends, I need your help...

My framed photo called "Mermaid's Playground" is for sale at the art exhibition at the Mac in Parksville. If you would like to purchase it, I will be donating the proceeds to my friend, Linda Tenney, who is undergoing treatment for cancer again, so she is greatly struggling financially and needs our help.

Linda Tenney has produced the local Vancouver Island magazine EyesOnBC since 2004. She has helped countless community events with free advertising, focused articles, facebook photos and mentions on her regular radio spot and has supported community-based initiatives in many forms with her coverage and presence.

Most importantly, Linda is a lovely and caring human being who gives so much to our community. To know her is to love her.

Linda has given me permission to mention her name publicly but is hesitant to ask for help herself as this is her third bout with cancer. But it is not her fault this is happening to her again. Some people just get dealt a bad hand. A donation of any size will help our mutual friend through this difficult time. Thank you in advance for caring.” ~ Micki Findlay

I didn't know Micki was going to post this plea on Facebook, nor donate the proceeds of her painting "Mermaid's Playground" to the fund. I must admit, I cried when I read her note and it made me realize that, yes, it's time to reach out, to ask for help and to accept the vulnerability of the situation.
