To my family, friends, and compassionate acquaintances: the reason for this go fund me page is because on March 20th 2016 my mom’s twin sister Linda was in a motor vehicle accident. At that time she did not think she was injured, but within about 3 weeks her body started showing signs of what would reveal to be severe crippling. It first started with muscles twitching in her right lower leg, then left lower leg, right thigh, left thigh, then the right arm, the left arm, then her entire back, then front. Shortly after that the cramps spread and became more intense. Aunt Linda started taking extra vitamins thinking she had a vitamin deficiency. She went to the doctors several times but they had no idea what was happening to her body. Unfortunately, the worse her health became, the less she could do. She was forced to quit nursing school and could no longer work.
In June 2016 muscle weakness started in her right leg and she began dragging her foot. The muscle weakness zigzagged its way up her body and now it has ended in her fingers with lack of grip. The doctors still have no idea why her body is doing this. She has been to a neurologist, physiatrist, physical therapist, and chiropractors, but it has left her needing full time care with caregivers coming to her home a few hours a day, a few times a week. The rest of the time, she has to fend for herself, without being able to even get out of a chair, bed or use bathroom facilities on her own. She has to be taken to all doctor appointments and can no longer shop or cook for herself. To add to all of the physical breakdown of her body, she started falling almost immediately and has fallen 35 times since the accident, without warning and always falling on her back and head. She uses a walker in the house and a wheelchair in public settings.
Just last week she went to a sports medicine neurologist and had a test on all her muscles, and he diagnosed her with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease).
Last week, my aunt went to a Naturopathic Doctor and he was dismayed that she was diagnosed with ALS after only one test. He is having her do blood tests—a lot of them—and he is personally paying for them.
Treatment, once decided, may be very costly and my aunt has no money, or sufficient resources to provide these needs. Naturopath is not covered by state Medicaid. Traditional medicine has failed and now she is trying an alternative.
She needs considerable in home care and high tech equipment. She has very limited support in Washington, as we live states away in Texas. We are asking you all to please help her by providing money for medical treatments, necessary care items, and to move her to Texas where we can take care of her daily needs. Aunt Linda is a strong Christian also, and we know God will provide. If He lays it on your heart to donate, we are praying for you to be blessed as well.
