Lincoln High School is Kansas City's historically black public high school, known today as Lincoln College Preparatory Academy. Lincoln High School is weaved into the history and culture of Kansas City's African American community.

Lincoln School, as it was known, was founded in 1867 as a primary ungraded school, in a building that was rented from the Second Congregational Church. There were other locations for the school until 1878, when the first building was built at 11th and Campbell streets, it was also called Lincoln School. The school remained at this location until 1906 when a new and larger building was erected at 19th and Tracy street, and the school was then named Lincoln High School. In 1936 another building was erected at its present location and this building, also known as Lincoln High School still stands today. It has been named Lincoln College Preparatory Academy.

Professor Richard Thomas Coles taught at the Garrison elementary school, starting in 1890. At this school, trades were introduced into the curriculum by Professor Coles, along with the regular courses of studies. When Lincoln High School moved from the site at 19th and Tracy in 1936, the building was renamed, R.T. Coles after Professor Richard Thomas Coles, a long time educator and pioneer in the Kansas City Public School system.

Today many of the alumni members remain leaders throughout the city, the region, and the nation, and the school's multi-racial and multi-ethnic faculty and student body continue to contribute to the broader community, building on the school's tradition and history of academic excellence and public service.

With this in mind, our National Alumni Association is dedicated to assisting with the continued education of the  students who wish to attend college.

The National Alumni association was formed in 1988 with the help of some former graduates. It was formed for the purpose of granting scholarships on an annual basis, to qualifying students of their alma mater.

We are seeking public support for this historic school and its student body. Each year since its founding we have given hundreds and thousands of dollars in scholarships to deserving students, and we ask you to help us continue this tradition by donating to the scholarship fund for these deserving students.

We are a not-for-profit organization (501-c3). Donations are tax deductible.
