Lincoln Park Swimming Pool

Donation protected

The Denfeld Girls and Duluth Boys (combined boys team of Denfeld and East) Swim Teams are working together to raise money to fund some improvements to the Lincoln Park Middle School pool facilities.  Competitive swimming is a great sport that can be enjoyed by children as young as five years old up to masters level swimmers that are well past the retirement age.

This is an excellent facility for learning the sport of swimming as well as for hosting meets, especially large swimming competitions.  Of the two new District pools, Lincoln is the pool that has the deck space and seating capacity to host large championship meets.  Eventually, we would like this new equipment at both pools, but for now, Lincoln is the priority.  The lifelong learning and physical activity that goes on in this facility, as well as the economic impact for hosting these large competitions cannot be overstated.   Teams travel from all over the state to swim at competitions at this pool.  The economic impact is seen by hotels restaurants and other retail shops.

While the pool has only been operational since 2012, there are a couple of pieces of equipment that are needed that the School District has not budgeted for and cannot currently pay for.

1. A new record board for Lincoln Pool and Denfeld School records.  This item was not included in the original pool plans.  Record holders deserve to be recognized for their accomplishments and the records also provide motivation for other swimmers to reach their goals.  This cost is $3,180, and will be the same as the one at the Ordean Pool, only in Denfeld Hunters colors.

2. Starting Block Foot Chocks and Grab Handles.  When the pool was built, new Keifer Starting blocks were installed, that did not include foot chocks or grab handles.  While this equipment is not required of competition pools, it is becoming more and more standard and expected of pools that host large championship meets, especially pools that host conference and section swim meets. The picture on this page shows the “foot chock”, aka “wedge” and the grab handles.  The plan is to use the existing staring blocks by making some modifications to add this new equipment.  This total cost is just over $17,000 for all eight blocks.
The Denfeld Girls and Duluth Boys Swim Teams are committed to help raise funds to help pay for the new record board and equipment from team fundraisers, meet concessions, etc.  We expect to come up with half of the total cost from team fundraising.  The total cost of this equipment is over $20,000, therefore, we are seeking a significant portion ($10,000) in donations from the greater community.  Our hope is that swimming alumni/families, current swimming families and future swimming families from the YMCA, Club Teams and High School programs will dig deep and contribute.  If you prefer a direct donation rather than through the gofundme app, you may contact me (Cliff Knettel [phone redacted]) to make those arrangements.  Please share this with other members of the swimming community, past present and future.  The Denfeld Girls Swim team is hosting the Section True Team and Section Prelims/Finals this year.  It would be great to have this new equipment in time for these meets.
