Meet Liliana, she is a loving mother to her three children Brandon, Magda and Leydi and a grandmother to Darius and baby Lily. She is also sisters with Lorena Southern. At only 52 years old, she has endured several invasive surgeries in her abdominal region. This is her story... Liliana was first diagnosed in November 2014 with stage 3 stomach cancer and had to go through a total Gastrectomy (surgery where the stomach is completely removed) in February 2015. A week after her Gastrectomy, she was rushed to the emergency room because of an intestinal blockage, which triggered an emergency second surgery. Unfortunately, her pain did not subside due to the aggressive chemotherapy and radiation in the months to follow. Thanks to her strong spirit and unconditional familial support, she was able to achieve remission and stay cancer free for two years! Liliana’s life came to another halt in August 2017 when she had to undergo yet another surgery to remove a secondary intestinal blockage. The excruciating pain she felt made it difficult for her to enjoy food and even certain beverages. With heavy hearts, her family sought out second opinions. A new team of doctors found another intestinal blockage and thought it would be best to perform another surgery. They thought it would surely fix the problem for good, however, Liliana was in no condition to face another surgery. She stayed in the hospital for weeks to gain her strength physically and mentally. Her family members came to visit her everyday to keep her company and offer undeniable love and support. They spent long days and nights by her side and even brought over their Thanksgiving meal to create a picnic in her hospital room. On November 24, 2017, the surgery uncovered their deepest fear - the cancer had returned. This time, the cancer had spread all over her abdominal walls. The doctors informed the family that Liliana only had 2-6 months to live. _____________________________________________________________ As many of you know, our mother is a strong and courageous fighter. She is not ready to give up yet and neither are we. We are fortunate enough to have our mother with us during this holiday season, however, everyday is filled with mixed emotions. It would mean the world to us to be able to keep our mother’s love for as long as possible.
