Together Our Mission Lightning Protection

Tax deductible
Tom Larson, founder of Together Our Mission, has been an integral part of the I Know Concert Series, Music Festival in Kabale, Uganda, produced by the Global Livingston Institute. In 2014, as part of the I Know Music Festival, Tom was able to visit a local school in a village named Kisiizi. While there, he learned that the school was often hit by lightning and many of the children had been hurt. Upon returning to the states, he decided that something needed to be done.

Tom, with the help of Patrick Doyle and Vincent Avila, designed a system to be installed on the school in Kisiizi to lower the chance of it being struck by lightning by dissipating the electricity into the ground. In 2015 Tom started a fundraiser and raised enough money for all of the equipment and to bring an electrician to help install everything correctly. Together Our Mission was born out of this project. In 2016 Tom returned and protected St. Lukes Church at Kisiizi. In December 2016, Tom returned again with his wife and co-founder, Misty, and installed lightning dissipators on 2 more schools and 5 more churches in the Lake Bunyonyi region. There are more schools and buildings in this region that need help. Once these children have a safe place to go to school they will start to graduate more consistently.

Recently, another school called Yamuriro Primary School was struck by lightning in Southwest Uganda. 8 children were severely hurt and are in the hospital. Together Our Mission sent two boxes of dissipators, screws, metal clips, wire and a drill to Kabale Uganda so that Kiboneire Bright and Elivis, who have been working with Together Our Mission could go up and protect the school from future strikes. They completed the dissipation system on Yamuriro.

Together Our Mission is now gearing up for our largest push yet. T.O.M. just purchased 50 dissipators,  to protect 4 more churches and schools. A church in Rwanda was recently struck, 16 people were killed and 140 were injured. We are going to put a dissipation system on their new church and school. From there we will travel into Uganda and protect 3 more churches and schools.

Together Our Mission so far has installed lightning protection on 5 schools and 7 churches and 2 homes around the Lake Bunyonyi region. Please help us do a big push and protect all the schools that could possibly be in jeopardy of being hit by lightning. We are traveling back in September to install a system on a school and church in Rwanda where 16 people were killed and 140 were injured. We are then traveling up into Uganda and continuing to protect the schools around Lake Bunyonyi. Please consider helping, education in developing countries is how the world is going to change for the better.
