Hallo allemaal!
Wij zijn Sietse en Jolijn, twee studenten uit Nijmegen, en vanuit onze windsurfvereniging Aeolus doen wij mee aan de liftwedstrijd Roadsurfers. Het doel: zo ver mogelijk liften in 3 dagen en zoveel mogelijk geld ophalen voor een goed doel! Wij strijden tegen 2 andere teams en gaan natuurlijk voor de winst!
Met onze deelname willen wij graag menstruatiearmoede tegengaan. Bij 1 op de 8 meisjes en vrouwen is er thuis namelijk geen geld om maandverband of tampons te kopen. Naast het taboe, zorgt dat ook voor heel veel ongemak, en soms zelfs dat meisjes thuis blijven. Het mag in Nederland niet zo zijn dat je door menstruatiearmoede bijvoorbeeld niet naar school kunt en daardoor een les, proefwerk of examen mist.
Gelukkig heeft Stichting Armoedefonds Nederland de menstruatieproducten uitgiftepunten (MUP) in het leven geroepen. Verschillende organisaties en instellingen bieden via de MUP gratis menstruatieproducten aan meisjes en vrouwen die dit hard nodig hebben.
Met het geld dat wij ophalen zullen wij (op eigen kosten) de Nederlandse en Duitse drogisterijen afrijden, we wonen immers vlak bij de grens, en allerlei verschillende menstruatieproducten kopen. We hopen met een kofferbak vol aan te kunnen komen bij het distributiecentrum van het Armoedefonds in Rosmalen. Vanuit daar verspreiden zij de producten verder over allerlei verschillende uitgiftenpunten door heel het land.
Wij hopen zoveel mogelijk geld op te halen zodat we zoveel mogelijk vrouwen en meisjes kunnen helpen. Ongesteld zijn is al vervelend genoeg. Daar wil je niet ook nog de stress bij moeten hebben of je wel rond komt aan het einde van de maand als je een pakje tampons haalt.
Onze actie is in samenwerking met Stichting Armoedefonds. Zij kunnen de producten goed gebruiken voor de uitgiftepunten en we hopen hen blij te maken met een goede voorraad!

Hello everyone!
We are Sietse and Jolijn, two students from Nijmegen, and through our windsurfing association Aeolus, we’re participating in the hitchhiking competition Roadsurfers. The goal: to hitchhike as far as possible in 3 days and raise as much money as we can for a good cause! We're competing against two other teams — and of course, we're aiming for the win!
With our participation, we want to help fight period poverty. In the Netherlands, 1 in 8 girls and women cannot afford menstrual products like pads or tampons. Besides the stigma, this leads to a lot of discomfort, and sometimes even causes girls to stay home. It shouldn't be the case that in a country like the Netherlands, someone misses school, a test, or even an exam because they can't afford period products.
Luckily, the Dutch poverty foundation has created Menstrual Product Distribution Points (MUPs). Various organizations and institutions offer free menstrual products through these MUPs to girls and women who need them most.
With the money we raise, we will (at our own expense) drive around to Dutch and German drugstores — after all, we live near the border — and buy a wide range of menstrual products. We hope to arrive at the poverty foundation distribution center in Rosmalen with a trunk full of supplies. From there, the products will be distributed to MUPs throughout the country.
We hope to raise as much money as possible to help as many women and girls as we can. Having your period is unpleasant enough — no one should have to worry about whether they can afford a box of tampons at the end of the month.
Our campaign is in collaboration with the Dutch Poverty Foundation. They are in great need of products for their distribution points, and we hope to make them happy with a solid supply!
