Lifting Up the Neal Family

December 21st was Olivia Neal’s 17th birthday. That afternoon she was heading out to lunch with a friend to celebrate. Little did she know that her life was about to change dramatically. The car she was a passenger in was hit head-on by a 30-foot cargo truck as they were turning through an intersection. Olivia broke both femurs, her right tibia and suffered a severe concussion, along with several other less traumatic injuries. Due to the amount of pain and two surgeries required to repair her legs, the doctors decided to keep her sedated and on a ventilator for over a week.
She has made some progress and is awake now, but is going to require several weeks of intensive inpatient therapy at Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte. Her Father, Ronnie Neal and Step-mother, Amy Neal, will be traveling with her to get settled in at the hospital in Charlotte today (1/5/18). Olivia is a member of the marching band and swim team at Northwest Guilford High School. We are confident that with the right care, determination and love of family and friends we will see her back marching with the band and swimming with the swim team next year, but she has a long and tough path to get there.
Our goal here is to rally around the Neal family and help them with all the associated expenses that have resulted from this terrible accident. Those expenses include significant medical expenses for Olivia, and while insurance does help, the fact that her hospital stay straddled 2017 and 2018 means that she has to meet two deductibles and two out-of-pocket maximums. There is also going to be significant expenses associated with the multi-week stay in Charlotte, including gas, food and lodging. In order to appropriately support Olivia’s recovery either Amy or Ronnie plan to stay in Charlotte for the duration of her time there, which will result in significant missed-time from work.
Please join us in lifting up the Neal family during this very trying time and mitigating some of the financial burden so that their sole focus can be on helping Olivia get better.
