Lifting Up Linda

For those of you who don't know Linda "LJ" Houston, she is one of my medical assistants at Ark-La-Tex Children's Clinic.   Linda has recently had some health issues and her worst fears were confirmed this week when a recent biopsy came back showing she has Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma.  After her first oncology visit yesterday, she was set to have a Port placed next week and to start chemo the following week.  However plans have quickly changed.  The oncologists called this morning after having discussed her case in their Tumor Board, and determined she needs emergent chemotherapy.  She had a PICC line placed today and will start chemotherapy first thing in the morning.  LJ is 23 years old and the single mother to 3 children, ages 4yo, 3yo, and 1yo.  LJ will be unable to work in the coming months while receiving chemo.  She will undergo 3 rounds of chemo and then be rescanned to determine how many more rounds of chemo she will need.  When she is done with chemo, she will receive radiation.  Her radiation oncologist expects she will be able to work during radiation which she will receive 5 days a week for a month.  LJ is always the bright smiling face everyone at Ark-La-Tex Children's Clinic sees each day.  She is an incredibly hard worker and an incredibly active parent.  She has dreams of pursuing further education.  Her greatest dream is to see her children grow and thrive.  She is never one to ask for assistance.  In fact, I've never met someone more independent and determined to do everything on her own.  Through her cancer journey, I want her to see how many people care and this is one time in her life where she will need to depend on others.  Linda will certainly need help with expenses while she is unable to work.  For those who are unable to give, but want to help - please make her a card, offer to help drive her to appointments or chemo, help put together a meal for her kids, or just simply pray for healing.  Anything is much appreciated.  Thanks to everyone who has already shown her so much love through this difficult journey!!  Let's Lift Up Linda!!
