Lifting for Dementia

Donation protected
*I completed this challenge exactly on 100 days, a huge thank you to everyone that supported me through this and made it all worthwhile. I'm going to keep the page open and hopefully through some more t-shirt sales we can hit the £5000*

In the UK 850,000 people suffer from various forms of dementia, and this is forecast to increase to over 1 million by 2025. The impact of this illness is very personal to myself and family on both sides. Both my Grandads have suffered from the illness, one passing away last Christmas with Vascular Dementia and the other currently under 24-hour care for Frontotemporal Dementia. While being different types of dementia, both have commonalities in how they affect the brain, particularly memory, communication, emotion and personality. The impact on families when their loved one cannot recognise them is a tough one to take.

I’ve always wanted to do a charity challenge in memory and support of my Grandads as both were two of the best and kindest people you could wish to meet. I also would like to partly raise funds for the once in a lifetime trip to Israel to be alongside 49 other nations from around the world. As such from the 4th on January I will be attempting to squat 850,000 kilos in 100 days, a kilo for every sufferer of dementia in the UK.

(As a reference, it would normally take me over four years to squat this much volume and I will have to squat my own bodyweight on the bar 100 times every day for 100 days.)
