You can help families in the Greater Gainesville, FL region who have a young adult with intellectual differences/disabilities by donating to expand LTS programs to those with the most need.
Life Transition Skills, Inc. (LTS), formally organized on July 28, 2015 as a Florida non-profit organization, has the aim of developing and empowering young adults with intellectual differences in achieving their full physical, emotional, intellectual, social, and spiritual potential, as individuals, and as independent, responsible citizens and members of their local communities. As Life Transition Skills, Inc. continues to expand vital and necessary program offerings to the special needs community, your financial contributions and support are needed to allow access to those with the greatest need.
Birthed from over a combined 40 years of work with students with disabilities and experience in the school system the Life Transition Skills, Inc. team saw a real need throughout the Greater Gainesville region for quality programs to assist young adults with disabilities. The first issue that was tackled was the need for education focused programming during the summer when school was not in session. In addition, there was a need for a program to address the friendship/social aspect of these individuals. Thus was developed the highly successful life skills summer program and Gainesville Buddies programs.
In Fall 2017, Life Transition Skills, Inc. will launch a new program, the LIFE ACADEMY, to provide young adults with intellectual differences an opportunity to more easily transition from high school to the real world. Access to daily training, mentorship and learning activities is in great demand throughout the disability community. Currently this program is paid out of pocket by parents/guardians who have young adults with disabilities. Although some can afford this program, there are some families who cannot. Your contribution/donation will assist those parents/guardians who are not financially able to afford this program through a full or partial scholarship.
