Last summer, I was diagnosed with an aggressive blood cancer (Large Diffuse B-Cell Lymphoma, LDBCL) that, so far, has failed to respond to four different kinds of chemotherapy. My hopes are now focussed on Car-T Cell Therapy, a pioneering treatment that is only now coming out of clinical trials, but which is proving to be hugely successful for chemo-resistant patients like me. It is not available in Scotland, and I am not eligible for treatment in England, so have had to look to the US for self-funded options. The sum I need to raise - in the region of $700,000, is staggering, partly because the drug is so expensive, and partly because treatment requires a lengthy stay in hospital, which in this case would be Massachusetts General Hospital, in Boston. I am pretty desperate to stay alive. I have two young children and, like any mother, I want to see them grow up...I want to see who'll they'll become, I want to be there to give them love and support, and to hold my grandchildren. We're a very little family, and need each other very much. My situation is about as urgent as it could be. My consultant talks in terms of "weeks, maybe months", and the cancer is at an advanced stage. If you can help me at all, help me today, because this disease is not slowing down for anyone.
