<div>Dit is misschien wel een van de moeilijkste dingen die ik ga doen, ditmaal ga ik niet mijn verhaal delen om anderen daarmee te kunnen helpen of mensen te inspireren, dit keer deel ik mijn verhaal omdat ik jou om hulp wil vragen.

<div>Voor degenen die mij niet kennen, ik ben Ilse, 20 jaar. Ik ben iemand die altijd sterk wil zijn, en alles alleen wil kunnen. Als je me vraagt hoe het met mij gaat zal ik mijn tranen inslikken en mijn lach opzetten. Mijn hoofd zit vol met energie, hoop en dromen, ik wil zeggen dat het allemaal wel goed komt, maar het komt niet vanzelf goed. Ik heb een levensreddende operatie nodig. Ik ga alles geven en heel hard vechten, maar ik kan deze strijd niet alleen winnen.

<div><strong>Mijn strijd</strong>

<div>Ik was al jaren ziek, maar desondanks was ik gewoon een meisje dat kon sporten op hoog niveau, ik studeerde, ik sprak af met vrienden, ik was zelfstandig, ik had vrijheid en ik maakte volop toekomstplannen. Nu staat mijn wereld volledig op de kop. Mijn leven speelt zich noodgedwongen af binnen de muren van de ziekenhuizen of thuis. Ik breng mijn dagen liggend door en ben afhankelijk van sondevoeding, medische hulp, rolstoel en 24/7 mantelzorg. De vrijheid die ooit zo vanzelfsprekend was, is vervangen door pijn, verdriet, afhankelijkheid en de angst voor hoe verder.

<div>De realiteit is hard en rauw. Mijn organen beginnen te falen. Mijn lichaam is uitgeput. Elke dag voelt als een groot gevecht om te overleven. Ik lijd aan vele vasculaire compressie syndromen. In het kort houdt dat in dat bloedvaten en organen worden afgekneld. De hoge druk en tekorten aan bloed op sommige delen en overvloed in anderen delen leidt tot hevige pijn, mogelijke orgaan falen, ernstige schade aan het lichaam en levensbedreigende situaties of complicaties. De oorzaak ligt hoogstwaarschijnlijk in het Ehlers Danlos syndroom, een erfelijke genetische bindweefselziekte. Normaal gesproken houdt bindweefsel je lichaam stevig en op z’n plek, het zit namelijk overal. Maar bij Ehlers Danlos is dat bindweefsel te zwak. Dit zorgt ervoor dat gewrichten, bloedvaten en organen uit positie kunnen, mijn lichaam zichzelf niet kan ondersteunen en zo ontstaan er ernstige complicaties.

<div>Het zijn onzichtbare ziektes met slopende, heftige gevolgen. Mijn symptomen omvatten dan ook het hele lichaam. Ik heb veel pijn aanvallen en mijn lichaam gaat steeds harder achteruit. Het is een hele lange zoektocht geweest naar diagnoses, mede om het ziektebeeld zeer zeldzaam is.

<div><strong>Waarom het buitenland? </strong>
</div>
<div>Lange tijd was de situatie uitzichtloos. Helaas kan ik in Nederland niet geholpen worden. De ziektes zijn zeldzaam, ze zijn hier nog te onbekend en mijn situatie is door alles te complex, maar in Spanje vond ik hoop. In Malaga om precies te zijn is er een specialist met een vast team die mensen over de hele wereld behandeld met deze compressie syndromen. Zij zien nog mogelijkheden.

<div>En voor het eerst in hele lange tijd durf ik voorzichtig een klein beetje te dromen. Niet van beter worden, ik weet dat dit onmogelijk is, maar ik droom wel van een beetje meer kwaliteit van leven, minder pijn, en vooral extra tijd. Tijd om hopelijk ook weer te leven in plaats van alleen maar te overleven.

<div>Het wordt een loodzwaar traject. Ik zal onder narcose eerst nog de laatste onderzoeken krijgen. We hopen dat ik nog wat kan aansterken met TPV-voeding, dat is voeding via een centrale lijn direct in het bloed. Ik zal meerdere operaties ondergaan. Op 19 juni zal ik een zware open buikoperatie krijgen met onder andere een autotransplantatie van mijn eigen nier, een nieuwe weg van de darm en mijn mals wordt verholpen. Afhankelijk van het herstel zal ik in de dagen hierna een tweede operatie krijgen om het May Thurner syndroom te behandelen. Het wordt een hele heftige strijd, maar ik wil die strijd aangaan. Ik wil alles geven voor mijn laatste hoop, maar ik heb jullie hulp nodig.

<div><strong>Waarom een crowdfunding?</strong>
</div>
<div>Ik heb deze crowdfunding opgezet, omdat de operaties in Spanje en de bijbehorende zorg niet vergoed wordt door de verzekering. Deze operaties worden namelijk niet in Nederland uitgevoerd en zitten dus niet in het basis of aanvullende pakket. Operaties hebben geen garanties, maar dit is mijn beste hoop. Er is een flink bedrag nodig zodat ik geholpen kan worden en hoop kan blijven houden dat ook mijn dromen uit mogen komen. Vanwege de huidige situatie en de ernst zal ik begin juni al afreizen.

<div>This is perhaps one of the hardest things I am going to do, this time I am not going to share my story so I can help others with it or inspire people, this time I am sharing my story because I want to ask you for help.

<div>For those who don't know me, I am Ilse, 20 years old. I am someone who always wants to be strong, and to be able to do everything on my own. If you ask me how I am doing, I will swallow my tears and put on my smile. My head is full of energy, hopes and dreams, I want to say it will all work out, but it won't work out on its own. I need life-saving surgery. I am going to give everything and fight very hard, but I cannot win this battle alone.

<div><strong>My struggle</strong>
</div>
<div>I had been ill for years, but despite this I was just a girl who could play sports at a high level, I studied, I met up with friends, I was independent, I had freedom, and I made plenty of future plans. Now my world is completely turned upside down. By necessity, my life takes place within the walls of hospitals or at home. I spend my days lying down and depend on tube feeding, medical assistance, wheelchair and 24/7 home care. The freedom that was once so granted has been replaced by pain, sadness, dependence and the fear of the future.

<div>The reality is hard and cruel. My organs are starting to fail. My body is exhausted. Every day feels like a big fight to survive. I suffer from many vascular compression syndromes. In short, this means that blood vessels and organs are pinched off. The high pressure and shortage of blood in some parts and plenty in the other parts leads to severe pain, possible organ failure, severe damage to the body and life-threatening situations or complications. The cause most likely lies in Ehlers Danlos syndrome, an inherited genetic connective tissue disease. Normally, connective tissue keeps your body strong and in place, as it is everywhere. But in Ehlers Danlos, that connective tissue is too weak. This causes joints, blood vessels and organs to move out of position, my body cannot support itself and so serious complications arise.

<div>They are invisible diseases with debilitating, severe consequences. My symptoms therefore involve the whole body. I have many pain attacks and my body is deteriorating harder and harder. It has been a very long journey to find a diagnosis, partly because the syndromes are very rare.

<div><strong>Why abroad? </strong>

<div>For a long time, the situation was hopeless. Unfortunately, I cannot be treated in the Netherlands. The diseases are rare, they are still too unknown here and my situation is too complex due to everything, but in Spain I found hope. In Malaga to be precise, there is a specialist with an established team that treats people all over the world with these compression syndromes. They still see possibilities.

<div>And for the first time in a very long time, I gently dare to dream a little bit. Not of getting better, I know this is impossible, but I do dream of a bit more quality of life, less pain, and above all, extra time. Time to hopefully also live again instead of only surviving.

<div>It will be a extremely tough journey. I will have final examinations under anaesthetic first. We hope I can gain some strength with TPV feeding, which is feeding through a central line directly into the blood. I will undergo several surgeries. On June 19, I will have major open abdominal surgery that includes autotransplantation of my own kidney, a new pathway of the bowel and my MALS will be fixed. Depending on the recovery, I will have a second surgery in the following days to treat May Thurner syndrome. It will be a very intense battle, but I want to fight that battle. I want to give everything for my last hope, but I need your help.

<div><strong>Why a crowdfunding?</strong>
</div>
<div>I set up this crowdfunding because the operations in Spain and the related care are not covered by insurance. This is because these operations are not performed in the Netherlands and are therefore not in the basic or additional insurance package. Surgeries have no guarantees, but this is my best hope. A significant amount of money is needed so I can receive help and remain hopeful that my dreams may also come true. Because of the current situation and severity, I will travel at the beginning of June already.
