Lifesaving Lung Transplant for Merri Grace 
I have been chosen to receive a lung transplant at Emory Hospital in Atlanta, GA. This is anticipated to occur within the next three to six months! Approximately 2,500 lung and heart/lung transplants were performed in 2021,* so this is an extraordinary opportunity to extend my life!

 

For ten years, I used inhalers to breathe normally. Now, within the past year, I am relying an advanced level of 24-hour oxygen usage. My oxygenation requirement constantly increases, so that is a limited strategy. To be referred for a rare lung transplant has been the most surreal outcome.

 

I’m currently also the daily caregiver for my mom, who has Dementia. Although it isn’t in my comfort level to fundraise for myself, I will be in ICU for a week, hospital for a month and in a rehab facility for an additional 2-3 months. I must have a 24/7 caregiver, and will have many expenses that cannot impact my mom’s care. I hope you will help make this transplant a reality.

For more than 30 years as a marketing professional, fashion editor and professor, I organized fundraising events for cancer research at Miami Sylvester and Nova Southestern, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Humane Society (Miami and Fort Lauderdale), Youth at Risk (Atlanta), and many more. I never imagined to be in need of help myself.

My doctors say that I need this lung transplant… very soon. However, in order to be placed on the waitlist for a donor and to remain there, the hospital requires a level of financial security for post-surgical rehab, out-of-pocket medical costs, transportation, lodging, and so forth. That is why I am opening a Go Fund Me account that will also contribute a portion of funds to my matching prescription account application with the Georgia Transplant Foundation for life-long prescriptions.
