Life over Limb 2.4mR Performance Sailing

Welcome to Life over Limb, 2.4mR Performance Sailing! My name is Delani Hulme-Lawrence. I am a 26 year old amputee who lives to compete as a high performance keelboat sailor.

After having represented both Team Alberta and Team British Columbia at the Canada Summer Games I decided to take my sailing to the next level. In 2019, I fought my way to a personal best during the 2019 Para World Sailing Championship in Spain; finishing 13th overall and 2nd place female. Because of this result, I was named to the national Canadian Sailing Development Squad. Making the national team was an absolute dream come true!

My 2021-2022 goal is to train and compete beside the highest level of athletes around the world in preparation to represent my country at the Open World Sailing Championship in Tampa, Florida; November 2022.

My ultimate goal is to compete at the 2028 Paralympic Games in LA. #Backthebid

COVID-19 has thrown us all for a loop. The pandemic continues to impact athletes deeply around the globe. COVID-19 has resulted in training venue closures, cancelled regattas and training opportunities, shortages of boat parts and equipment, and isolated/independent on water training. To adapt, I have taken a home grown approach to my development and have shifted my focus to training within Canada. Being able to access my boat and get on the water regularly throughout the lock downs has been a true blessing.

As we look forward to the future, I must plan and prepare to safely return to international events. Engaging with other elite athletes and exposure in varying conditions is a critical component in achieving on-water performance increases. The costs associated with competing abroad are unprecedentedly inflated as the landscape of this virus remains unpredictable and is subject to change as quickly as the tides.

Contributions to my olympic campaign are utilized to aid in the affordability of training and competing internationally.

It is my hope that you will be a part of my journey.

My passion for sailing has been featured by several News outlets. Here you will find an interview with CBC, CHEK News, Lakeland Connect, VicNews, and the Canadian Yachting Association.

I am also a registered athlete with Wind Athletes Canada and the National Sports Trust Fund. You can find my page here.

Without the support of The Clagett, my club, my coach, family, friends, and the community; none of this would be possible. I am eternally grateful for all of the support and encouragement I have received.

I would like to offer my sincerest thanks to everyone that donates to my campaign, supports me and cheers me on through this journey of a lifetime.

Thank you, and see you on the water!
