Life-Changing Van Conversion for Maylin Metz
Donation protected
Maylin Metz was born with a rare genetic disorder called CACNA1E. She has been dealing with debilitating seizures since she was 2 months old, and the negative neurological effects have resulted in intellectual and developmental delays (the inability to walk, sit up, hold her head up, etc). In two years those who love her have seen her overcome so much, yet our hearts ache for the difficulties she and her family are faced with in the most basic everyday tasks.
We currently have a way we can help with a very specific need for the Metz family: the need for a handicap accessible van to transport Maylin. In their current vehicle, May has to be strapped in to a standard carseat (instead of the amazing handicap stroller they have for her) and she is very uncomfortable and will often vomit on car rides because her knees are pushed up into her belly.
Currently whenever Maylin has to go somewhere, Maggie and Micah carry her to the van over hard surfaces -- tile floor, concrete garage, etc. -- and at 25 lbs, with no muscle control whatsoever, it is very dangerous to transfer her to the vehicle. Unloading her can be risky too, especially when they run into rain, mud, ice and/or other weather-related circumstances that could cause them to slip. Oxygen lines and feeding tube are a further complication to transport. Maggie and Micah have found themselves fearing for her safety each time they move her from her handicap stroller into the standard carseat, and simply put, it is no longer safe to transport her this way.
What would it mean for the Metz family to have a handicap accessible van?
Adding handicap accessibility to their van would be as simple as loading May in her wonderful handicap stroller, rolling it safely into the van and strapping it down, allowing her a safe and comfortable ride. They would then be able to effortlessly roll the stroller out of the van once arriving at their destination. This would make a world of difference for the Metz family and would be a much safer option for May!
The need is urgent. Maggie and Micah have partnered with a non-profit organization and medicaid in order to assess funding for their new van and are just $10,000 shy of their total goal.
Let's bless this family by giving generously and show Maggie and Micah that we stand with them through each phase of Maylin's life! If you can't give, sharing on social media is free and greatly increases the fundraiser's potential.
