Life saving Liver shunt operation for our cat Jinx

Dear readers, dear friends,

We need your help!

Earlier this year we adopted Billie and Jinx and were overjoyed to have them with us in our family. Our wedding was cancelled due to Corona so we decided to make another wish we had come true. And there they were..

These 2 furballs came into our lives and we have raised them ever since with all the love we can give. They are best friends (twins!) that sleep, eat and play together. They are the sweetest, most kind hearted cats you can imagine. There is nothing like them waiting for us in the morning to open te living room door and rushing into the bedroom for the good morning cuddles.

It was a huge nightmare when Jinx started to get sick 2 weeks ago. She started being absent, bumping into things and later on she seemed in her own world. We went to see the vet and she got some care but the symptoms got worse. She went into a crazy state where she seemed completely crazy and scared, I could not reach her. While calling the vet she started having horrible seizures. She cried and was so terribly scared but the seizures kept coming and we rushed her to the animal hospital at night. They admitted her immediately, got her stable but the results of the tests they ran were not good.

When she came home from intensive care they shared the diagnostic outcomes with us and they concluded Jinx has a Liver shunt. This means the blood does not flow into the liver properly and therefor can not do the crucial break down of ammonia which is naturally created in cats. This build up of ammonia creates neurological problems and can only be cured with an operation.

Jinx came home temporarily deaf, blind and weak and got a special diet to treat the symptoms. She is doing relatively good but until the symptoms come back.
We are looking at very high vet bills for the emergency care and even higher bills for the life saving treatment which is not covered.

We are looking for anyone that will help us with partially covering the costs.
We think with the special diet and medication she can be stable for a while but nobody knows how long. We have some savings but worst case the amount will go up to 5000 euro's on top of the 1000 euro we have spent. If the operation is succesful she will be completely cured.

We want Jinx to have a life and Billie not to be left behind. Seeing him without her was heartbreaking.

We thank anybody who wants to help us save Jinx!

Kind regards,
Max and Sofie
