Life Insurance gone wrong, funeral expenses

My mother, Dolly Chapman 68 of Morgan city, L.a.  battled cancer July of  2019 and lost her battle Thurs. Dec. 12th 2019. Went in Friday to make arrangements for her burial yesterday thinking,I can breathe knowingly she covered herself with life insurance after burying two of her adult children and the struggle we went through without insurance she didn’t want us to worry/struggle and to  our surprise the insurance co. (Colonial Penn) Is only willing to give 555.00 and change because her updated policy was in March 2019 and I was floored because my mama had been paying on ins. for years and the only explanation we’re getting  is that she apparently updated/renewed from term life to whole life in March and it cancelled out her existing policy and now it’s considered a new policy and would not pay out the full benefit for another 2-3 yrs. Hours of being on the phone asking what happened to the money she paid in for all the other yrs. It would be considered null and void. So, here I am today, worrying how am I going to do this, yet, again at Christmas time 10yrs. To the date her daughter (my sister) passed.  I am  asking for any help that anyone can possibly do to help to put my mama to rest. Thank you all in advance. Prayers are most welcome.
