Nelson Mandela once said that “Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world.” I think this statement encapsulates every reason why a future human of the world should have every chance in education they deserve
United World College is a movement of schools. Together they aim to “make education a force to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future.” This shows why UWC is a catalyst for change, every student that joins a UWC wants to have a positive impact on the world. UWC was founded in 1962 with one school in Wales, UWC Atlantic College. And now has another 17 of them all around the world.
Although the students I am raising this money for have been given the opportunity, money is stopping them taking this opportunity. Our generation is the one that will change the world, and education is the weapon they need to do that so allow these students to do that through the movement of UWC.
I started my UWC journey in the summer of 2019, when I went to visit my cousin in Wales, who graduated from UWC that year to talk to him about it. I was sure I wanted to apply, at least to have a chance at this experience. I completed my initial application, and a month after that I found out I got invited to an interview day. It was at the interview day that I just knew that it was right for me, to be surrounded by people who wanted to make a difference in the world. I found out this February I had been offered a place to UWC Dilijan in Armenia. My parents are fortunate enough to be able to afford the fees for me to have this experience, but for those who can’t, I know how much I want this, and for anyone who has also had a place offered to them, they deserve not to miss out on UWC because of money.
The purpose of this GoFundMe is to raise £5,000. This money is to contribute to those who have been offered places at specific United World colleges. But because of a lack of money, they are unable to pay the fees to attend these schools.
