Life saving surgery for Joe DeGeronimo

Donation protected
Those of you who know him personally know how giving he is and willing to help anyone out without question. Every fall he puts together his “Backpack Initiative” where he uses mostly his own money and donations to buy pack packs from thrift stores and pack them with daily necessities someone on the street needs to get through winter. If he comes across a homeless person, he gives them one of these backpacks. He also donates his time to the VFW and Moose Lodge regularly. He’s the first one on scene in an emergency and last to leave. He’s also the guy you know will make you laugh until you cry. Well, he hasn’t been doing much laughing lately. I’m afraid depression will over come him. Help me make that not happen. We talked about this and we where reluctant to ask people for money. We have always been on the giving side. Not the receiving side.

Unfortunately, like thousands of other Americans, we do not have insurance at this time. This was so sudden and unexpected that we did not have time to even start an emergency savings account. The doctor told us that this kind of rupture in the large intestines, as severe as Joe’s was, has a 70% mortality rate. So, I am blessed to still have him in my life.

We relocated to the Sun-coast area of Florida 4 months ago. Since Joe is a self- employed sub-contractor, it took us time to save up for a very modest place to rent. After the first couple months, Joe was really doing well and we were able to afford to transfer our cars to this state and get auto insurance (which is really expensive in Florida). Then this. What we do have will be depleted at the end of January.

The goal is based on the bills we have received thus far. The initial 11k to 28k we receive will go towards the reversal of the colonoscopy so he can heal once again to get back to a regular life and of course get back to the job he loves. Some will be used to maintain our now stringent spending which includes the basics. Shelter, food, utilities, monthly bills. The rest will go to pay the doctor and hospital bills.

I humbly thank you all in advance for your donation to our cause. It takes giving people such as yourself to make a difference in the lives of others; and for that we are truly grateful. Be blessed, Arleen McGregor
