<div>When she passed away on June 12, 2025, at the age of 46 following years of treatment for cancer, <strong>Evelyn De la Cruz Velez left behind her husband Miguel Nolasco and their five children: Miguel Jr., Laetitia, Annie, Connie, and Zoey Nolasco.</strong> Less than two weeks before her death, Evelyn had orchestrated Zoey's 9th birthday party from her hospital room; to honor her mother's wishes, Laetitia celebrated her high school graduation open house just days after losing Evelyn.

<div>Because Evelyn did not have health insurance at the time of her initial cancer diagnosis, this was considered a "pre-existing condition" and she was not able to get any insurance coverage for her years of treatment and hospitalizations. <strong>This has left the Nolasco family with truly overwhelming medical debt in addition to funeral costs</strong> — all of this on top of the grief that each member of the family is navigating.
