<div>In conjunction with the Pioneer-Sarah Creek Watershed Management Commission, Three Rivers Park District, the City of Independence, and the City of Medina, last year LICA started a multi-year initiative to improve water quality through two projects: one that targets curly leaf pondweed, which is the most significant source of internal phosphorus loading in Lake Independence, and a second project

<div>Independence to recover after large rain events.

<div>These projects are multi-year initiatives with high up-front costs that gradually decrease over time as the situation improves. In addition to operational support, LICA's partners are also bearing a large amount of the project costs but the amounts will vary year to year depending on Cities budgets and state grant availability.
