Librarians for Troy Wagner!

Donation protected
UPDATE (9/7/17 09:09PDT): Amazing, guys! Troy is completely overwhelmed by your generosity and can't even find the words to express his thanks. This is a special group and we should all feel good!

----

Dear Librarians:

A member of the Ex Libris family, our wonderful and talented B-Camera focus puller, Troy Wagner, along with his wife, Monica, and their baby girl, Eden, were forced from their home in Houston by flooding last week. Since then, they have been living with several other families in the home of a good samaritan.

Troy estimates that it will be another two weeks before it's possible to drive anywhere in their area and another several weeks before any contractor will even answer the phone to begin the process of gutting the house and starting over. Even then, with the backlog of insurance claims in Houston, Troy is looking at financial (and emotional) hardship for some time to come.

Funds raised will go directly to Troy to help with his expenses (mortgage, hotel bills, groceries, child care, relocation expenses, etc) until he is able to work again. He does have a job booked for October, but his ability to do that job depends on many things coming together in Houston. This GoFundMe campaign will be a small insurance policy against continued unemployment.

So many of us have been looking for ways to help the situation in Houston. Now we all have a chance to do exactly that and, in the process, help one of our own. Please send a little something to The Wagners to remind them that they are loved by their Librarians family back in Portland.

Mad props to Dean Devlin, who has offered to match the Libs' donations!

Thanks in advance to everyone!

UPDATE (9/5/17 23:34PDT):  Bless their hearts, GoFundMe is taking special anti-fraud precautions with Hurricane Harvey-related campaigns, so, in order to get Troy's money released, I must now post the following:

Dear GoFundMe:

Here are answers to your four bullet-point questions.

1)This campaign was started by Matt Moriarty. Matt was hoping to be low-key about it but, well, there goes that idea.

2) Troy works with Matt in Portland, OR even though Troy lives in Houston.

3) As stated above, funds will go to Troy to be spent by Troy (or Monica) on expenses associated with Troy having his home destroyed by a hurricane. These shall include, but are not limited to: Groceries, Diapers, Medicine, Plastic Bags to Keep the Yucky Floodwater Off of Monica's Foot Which Was Recently Operated On, Toilet Paper, Toys for Little Eden, Mortgage Payments, Insurance Payments, Motel Rooms, Monthly Bills, Late-Fees-on-Mortgage/Insurance/Monthly-Bills-Because-It's-Hard-To-Pay-Bills-When-Your-City-Is-Flooded-and-Nobody-Can-Get-to-a-Mailbox, Rental Cars, Gasoline for Rental Cars, Monthly Payments on Two Cars That Are Currently Submerged, not to mention The Eventual Hope of Giving Painfully Large Sums of Money to a Series of Contractors Who Might One-Day Rebuild Troy's House in a Price-Gouged Environment While Troy and Monica and Little Eden Wait Amongst 3 Million Other People To Get An Insurance Check, Plus Stuff Matt Can't Think of Right Now, etc. That list seems pretty specific to me. Hope it was what you're looking for.

4) The "withdrawal plan" is for Troy to accept the "Beneficiary Invitation" (which he has done) and set up his "bank transfer" (which he says he has done) and for Troy to be able to access the money we're all trying to send him as soon as humanly possible. If it's more complicated than that, I may be too stupid to pull this off and I'll be forced to hand the whole thing over to Justin O'Shaughnessy - who would totally have had this done like a week ago already.

Thank you, GoFundMe, for helping us help our friend Troy, among the many, many others who today depend on your service.

Sincerely,

Matt
