Liberty Cemetery Restoration for America 250!

Tax deductible
The Joseph Hart Chapter, NSDAR is raising money to benefit the restoration of gravestones at the Hawpatch Liberty Cemetery and any donation will help make an impact.  This cemetery was established in 1821, the same year that Bartholomew County was established.

As shown on the Veteran Memorial stone, many veterans are buried here, including two Revolutionary War veterans and at least four War of 1812 veterans.  Many of the older gravestones are leaning or on the ground and covered with algae and difficult to impossible to read.  We also need to build a map of the burials, perhaps to enable more veterans to be buried here.  We also hope to install a bench near the Veterans Memorial.

The cost to restore / repair a gravestone is dependent on the size and condition of the stone, but tends to be from $50-200 per stone.  There are 766 burials identified on Find-a-grave in the Liberty Cemetery.  Our goal is to at least restore any veterans gravestone and possibly also their family members.

This GoFundMe will help us build up funds and request matching grants to restore even more gravestones.  Our veterans gave their time and possibly even their lives for our freedom,  so we do this to continue to recognize their sacrifices.

Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to us.
