Liberation Yoga Relocation Community Effort!

Donation protected
Liberation Yoga has to move on from our beautiful La Brea oasis to a new home just under two miles away, and we need your help to raise $23,000 to make it possible.

Liberation is a feeling, an energy, a community, and a way of living authentically together in light and love.  Though we are being priced out of the neighborhood, we are staying strong in our commitment to you and to the practice of yoga that we cherish and uphold on every level.  JOIN THE MOVEMENT,  be part of the revolution!

In true yoga style - we embrace the change as a new chapter and new opportunity. We know that a physical gathering space that is sacred and authentic is necessary for good health. Despite the surge in unreasonable rents changing the landscape of LA, we are committed to keeping our community together and expanding our reach to those who need and desire LIBERATION.

Why are we moving?
Liberation's current location needs major structural renovations, which means jackhammers and construction all day for months and an impossible $7,000 rent increase after it's complete. Although yoga with background jackhammers would be an exercise in inner peace, we can't ask our community to bear it, and we simply can't afford the new rent.

Liberation Yoga is a locally-owned, mom and pop yoga studio in Los Angeles that's been in operation for over 14 years. We can't imagine the excitement and energy of LA without Liberation to help us find our center, our peace, and our yoga community. Which is why we must pack up, raise $23,000, and move to our beautiful, bright new space just south down La Brea at San Vicente.

This change has already started. There have been months of consideration about what the right next steps are for the studio. Should we close down? If not, where do we go? How do we care for our community? Without a space to meet, will we remain a community? Christine and Gary (the owners of Liberation, for those of you who don't know) weighed all their options. They asked the teachers and staff.  We all had a chance to weigh in. The decision:  we can't close. We have to find just the right space, in the right place, at the right price.

AND...

This is our new pink door!

Now that we've found it we are so excited! This is an opportunity to breathe new life into our community, to design our fresh space with all the history we've lived so far and all the intention we bring into our future. As yogis and as a studio, we evolve on this path together. This is a chance to clear out the cobwebs and see ourselves in a new light. Friends, we can't do it without your help.

Where is the new space?
1288 South La Brea.

Look how sunny and bright!

See the progress so far?

We are renting from the Allmost Art Studios who run their art collective upstairs from our new Liberation location. The parking is easy, the neighborhood friendly, and the new space is less than two miles south of the old.

We knew we needed to stay nearby because our community is what makes Liberation the studio it is. Without you, Liberation wouldn't have that feeling you get when you walk in. You know the one - many newcomers feel it right away. Those good feels are something that takes time and intention to create, and Liberation Yoga is committed to holding that space as long as we can. Together, we can make it happen.

Here is a short video from our community member Vajrini, who is a Vastu Practitioner. Vastu is the Hindu art and science of architecture and spatial arrangement. She's helping us learn the energy of the new location and choose the best placement for maximum light and well-being to shine. Her recommendations for the space correspond to the chakras, as well. So cool!

What do we need?
Liberation Yoga must raise AT LEAST $15,000 in order to make this move. We are asking for $23,000 so we can enjoy further luxuries, like adequate heat and AC. As you can see, every dollar will count and is so greatly appreciated. For complete transparency, our conservative estimate breakdown of all of the associated costs is below.

-$13,440 - Move-in cost
-$4,200 - Wood floor (It's started as tile. Ouch!)
-$1,500 - Initial paint job
-$2,000 - Heat and AC
-$1,000 - Prop upgrade
-$1,500 - Move-out and repair of our old Liberation location

This equals $23, 630.

Here's a photo of our cool new fireplace...and part of the floor that's undergoing renovation.

More progress!

What about classes during the move?
We aim to have very few days, if any, that the studio is closed during the move. We will make it as seamless as possible...you'll just need to find a new favorite spot at the new space to roll out your mat!

When is this happening?
May 1 we open at the new location: 1288 South La Brea.

Wait, the month of May is long gone! What's going on now?

It's July and our new studio has been open just over two months. It’s been delightful to share the space with our old community plus new members from the neighborhood. Every class brings a little more to the energy of the place, changing the freshly painted walls and new bamboo floors from a simple room inside a building into a glowing container that holds us as we practice, stretch, breathe, and grow.

The generous  donations we've received so far have been spent with care and every cent is appreciated, but we still need more help! As 7-10-19, we have about $8,500  more to raise before reaching our goal of $23,000. This money will help us continue funding the strain of moving and also allow us to complete our goals of offering a more comfortable space. On our list of needs are ceiling fans, new props, and an air purifier for those deep yogic breaths.

What can I do to help?
What we need most is money! Please donate what you can, any amount helps tremendously.

**Please note, GoFundMe asks you for a tip when you donate. We want you to know that we pay 2.9% plus $0.30 per donation in fees to use this platform, so any GoFundMe tip you give is in addition to this! You have the option to say $0 as a tip.

We know Liberation Yoga is worth it. Is it to you?

We would love to hear your story, and we are open to any and all ideas you might have on the fundraising front.
