Hi! My name is Lia and this year I am participating in the UCDVO Volunteer Programme, a component of which is an approximately 5 week voluntary placement with MOEI Education Project based in Cambodia.
My first fundraising activity is Freezebuary! I'm getting into the sea every single day of February and getting 'Cold for Cambodia'!
UCDVO is a registered charity that provides UCD students, staff and alumni with the
opportunity to engage in a volunteer programme for the benefit of disadvantaged
communities overseas, in response to needs explicitly identified by those
communities.
MOEI was founded in 2008 by the University of Hong Kong, with the initial aim of
providing intensive English-language education for migrant children and adults from
Burma, located along the Moei River section of the Thai-Burma border. Since 2008, MOEI has expanded its programme to Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos and China. In 2025, MOEI will run education projects in Thailand and Cambodia inviting
participation of students from Universitas 21 members, of which UCD is a member.
A group of UCDVO volunteers and a team coordinator will travel to Cambodia to
assist teachers from schools participating in MOEI’s programme in Cambodia, in
teaching English as a second language to local students, aged 6-20 years, attending
free community schools. Each volunteer is asked to raise a minimum of €1,850 - the majority of these funds will go directly to UCDVO’s overseas partners and contribute to their development programmes.
Thank you all for your support - every little bit helps!
