Liam's Surgical Procedure and Rehab

Donation protected
It's true that a dog is a man's best friend. Ever since Liam came into my life just over 4 years ago, we have been side-by-side through thick and thin. At only one year of age, his career as an up-and-coming soccer superstar was cut short by a freak accident resulting in a hip dislocation; one of many dog owner's worst nightmares. Two subsequent invasive surgeries later, and months of recovery and rehabilitation Liam was back to his usual adorable self, bringing smiles to anyone he'd meet. Of course the financial sting of surgeries was not easy to bare during college, but I would do anything for my little beardog to be healthy and happy! In years since, he has retained full mobility, and continued with beach soccer once we would get a good stretch in. It is with major misery that I must share that Liam's formerly unsurgically altered hip had undergone dislocation last Tuesday night. I knew exactly when it happened from the shrill screams of pain I had heard years ago. Rushing to the veterinary ER, he could not even lay still without moaning and groaning. After two nights spent at a specialists office, he underwent surgery on Thursday afternoon. A femoral head and neck ostectomy (FHO) is a serious procedure, but the long-term prognosis is good for him especially now that he has had them bilaterally. He is slowly recovering with several medications and introductory stretching and exercises to maintain muscle in the area that used to be his hip joint. At this time, I'm less than 2 months away from graduation from my Masters in Nutrition and Dietetic Internship program at UNF, so I have been living frugally off of student loans without time to work a job outside of my program. With this unexpected cost, I have nearly maxed out my credit cards, and will have to slowly pay off the remainder over time after graduation and getting my first job as an Registered Dietitian. I was really resisting creating one of these because I have been raised to work hard for the things I want in life, but this was an urgent need that I could simply not prepare for under the circumstances I am in. I believe in paying it forward, and have always sent positivity into the people in the world around me. I'm hoping that this message may find itself in the warm hearts of people who have met Liam and know what an amazing dog he is, and doesn't deserve to go through this (for the third time now...) and all dog-lovers alike. My goal is set to meet roughly 80% of the costs already taken on as well as some of the estimated rehabilitation costs for us to get him back to the best shape he can be. Even if you can't donate to help us out, just having us in your prayers is something we are more than grateful for. I greatly appreciate any assistance you can offer, financial, emotional, or even just a little extra love the next time you see Big Li; God knows he needs it. Thanks for reading through the sob story, and anything you can spare to help us out is admirable to say the least!
