Axel Nathan's Heart Surgery Fund

Hi everyone this is Axel. He was born on January 28th 2015. He came to us 3 weeks earlier than we expected. Axel was diagnosed with a form of CHD (congenital heart defect) called Pulmonary Atresia with Ventricular Septal Defect. This causes the part of the pulminary artery to be very small to non existent and a hole in the wall between the left and right ventricles. Both of these areas are very crucial to the operation of the heart specifically pumping and receiving blood to and from the lungs. After further test were conducted the doctors then Diagnosed our little man with Digeorge syndrome. Digeorge syndrome occures when a piece of chromosome 22 is missing. This disorder can have many side affects one of which is heart defects. So Axel has a CHD stemming from the Digeorge Syndrome. Unfortunately there is no cure for Digeorge so any problems that arise must be treated on an individual basis. As of right now the only thing we know is that he will require surgery on his little heart. Given the Axel was small at birth weighing only 4.5lbs the doctor want to wait for him to grow before any operation. We are now in the process of preparing him to come home before his inevitable operation. We have seen an amazing amount of love and support from family, friends and even total strangers in the past few weeks and we would just like to thank all of you.
