My name is Eoghan Gallagher. I am an 18 year old rugby player from Yonkers, NY and I play Fullback at Old Blue Rugby Football Club in New York City. I am here today to ask for your support so that I might be able to take the next step toward making my sporting dreams a reality. I am the oldest of seven children in a single income household and a senior in High School. I have found it difficult to combine working, training for rugby and being a full time high school student, in addition to personal responsibilities within my household.
For those have ever played Rugby, I am sure you can relate to my infatuation for the sport and my complete and utter unwillingness to let it go. For those who are not, I would like to explain my scenario in general terms. I am a young athlete striving to reach the top of my game, I put in a lot of honest hard work and I am not afraid to ask for help when I need it. In the past I would see peers who have a better financial standing achieving greater individual success, getting invited to select sides and All American camps. It would break me inside because I saw it strictly as a financial issue. I have decided this is no longer a reasonable excuse for any lack of success I have had. I have a stronger work ethic and my desire to succeed is far superior to my fellow peers who may be more financially stable than I am.
For a while I began losing hope and contemplated quitting rugby all together. Finally, in October of last year, I was given the opportunity to join Old Blue RFC. Despite only being 17 at the time and knowing there was a huge learning curve ahead of me, I recognized it was an incredible opportunity. After spending the autumn season soaking up the environment, I have spent the last 3 months training incredibly hard, seeking out extra help and never cutting corners. I could go into incredible detail to describe what I have done to prepare but I would much rather show it to you on the rugby pitch. This is where you, the donor, come into the picture.
With your financial support I can take the next step to achieving the success I have desired since the first time I picked up a rugby ball in 2009. My immediate expenses are USA Rugby Insurance and registration dues and with these paid I can continue to train, have access to incredible facilities and coaches and participate in our spring season which includes an away trip to play Navy in Annapolis, MD, and regional playoffs. Any additional money raised will go directly to my self improvement, such as attending development camps and playing for select sides. All donors will have full access to me and my journey and if interested, receive weekly updates and have their initials placed on the wrist tape I will wear on match days. The largest donor will win a piece of Old Blue Merchandise.
