LGBTQymru

We may be out of the closet, and still in the house but that doesn’t mean our much-celebrated Welsh Pride Season stops until that Lockdown lifts.

The queer party is still very much on thanks to LGBTQymru – our first ever Wales Wide Virtual Pride, all set for the weekend of July 24th and 25th.

This unique online event will celebrate the whole of our community across the whole of our country bringing together all those living the LGBTQ+ life, and our allies too of course!

Pride Season with its events throughout the season are the highlight of the queer calendar. And with our community feeling even more disconnected and dispersed as we see our social events suffering those Coronavirus cancellations, now is the time to bring us all together.

LGBTQymru aims to do just that, and is calling on all Prides, LGBTQ+ community groups, charities, acts, organisations, and anyone else who wants to get involved to come and join us.

Wales Wide Virtual Pride will be a weekend of fun, entertainment, information and education for all the family. The two-dayer, which will see a variety of acts from music to make up tutorials, is free for all to watch and take part in - across Wales, and wider.

Part of what makes the LGBTQ+ community in Wales so special is its visibility, talent, and readiness to make sure everyone is connected, even in the most difficult of times. We have many Welsh Prides involved, including Barry, Rhondda, Swansea, Bangor, Llantwit Major, Valleys, Powys and Pride Cymru. Thanks also to Glitter Cymru and Bi Cymru Wales who have already signed up to make this weekend something special.

As a voluntary not-for-profit community group, LGBTQymru aims to make this free event as inclusive and accessible as possible.  While we have no expensive overheads, we will need some funding to pay for subtitling and editing to ensure all parts of our community can enjoy the content.  We therefore ask for any donation you are able to make, however big or small.  While donations from different sources are welcome, our strategy is not to target traditional funding sources such as Welsh Government and local government sponsors to help ensure that we are not taking precious funds away from third sector and LGBTQ groups as the country starts to plan its economic recovery from the effects of the pandemic. Any surplus crowdfunding raised beyond our needs, will be redistributed to LGBTQ community groups and acts and we will make further announcements about this after the event.

Information about our committee can be found on the ‘Story’ section of our Facebook page.

Thanks so much for your support!
