Literacy for Companionship Inc. (LfC) is a 501(c)3 public operating foundation located in Indiana. The foundation's mission to educate and empower children with the skills and confidence necessary to be good readers while helping them understand the importance of showing animals compassion and empathy.
To fulfill our mission, we offer FREE programs/events each month for children. Currently, we have three different programs: Pawsitive Book Club, LfC in the Community, and LfC at the Shelter (more information can be found on our website listed below).
LfC is the only reading program in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and surrounding areas, that helps to spread literacy and teach compassion toward animals in a judgment-free zone. Annually, the foundation serves approximately 600 children and we intend to increase this number in years to come. Our target audience is low-income families, children with disabilities, and areas with a reading proficiency score of 63%, not reading at a fourth-grade level. The poverty rate in the areas we serve is anywhere from 10.1% to 18.9%.
THIS IS WHERE YOU COME IN: As a grassroots organization funding can be tough and we want to ensure that we have funds to continue providing FREE events for children. To do this - we need to raise $5,000 to help cover the cost of our operating expenses for 12 months. While we do receive grants for LfC, these grants do not cover our operational costs. The grants that we receive are for specific programs (i.e. books for our libraries) and must be used for the intended purpose.
Funds raised will go toward paying for the following items:
CRM
PO Box
Website Marketing/Event
Software
Storage Unit (All LfC items are stored in)
