Lexi’s Doctor Fee’s

My name is Lexi and  I’m a 31 year old transgender woman.

I’ve known something was “different” about me since I was at least 6 years old. Growing up, I never fit into the mold that was expected of a “little boy”. I was always sensitive and extremely nurturing. Masculinity just felt like it never fit me.

And when I was a teenager, that became even more apparent. I struggled with depression and became completely disassociated from my body. I just went through the motions of what was expected of me. I wasn’t LIVING.

At 17, I learned what being transgender meant and immediately knew that was me, but was far too terrified to act on it at that point.

So I held it in for a further 8 years before I finally cracked and came out to my wife and family. My wife has been SO accepting.

But due to the high cost of even starting transition and the fact that I’m in a part of the country that’s not very accepting of people like me, it tookanother 5 years to even start hormones.

Flash forward to this year- I’ve been on hormone replacement therapy for a little over 9 months. It’s been positively lifesaving for me. The mental, emotional, and physical effects of finally being able to be myself and see that reflected in the mirror has been incredible.   But it’s still not cheap. With the pandemic and the holidays being around the corner, it’s become impossible for me to afford my doctor’s appointment to get my bloodwork done. Between needing to get a Lyft to and from, my labs and fees, it’s going to cost between $700-$800. I hate asking for help, especially in these current times.

But it would mean the world to me if anyone could chip in even a few dollars towards my transition expenses.
