Levi Bennett is your typical 3 year old - energetic, curious, and full of life. His smile will melt your heart and his fun personality will keep you busy for hours! Levi's early life has not come without challenges though. Early on Levi was diagnosed to be on the Autism spectrum. This makes it difficult for Levi to communicate and process as well as sensory sensitivity.
Parents Janaye and Logan Bennett did not expect this. About a week ago, Levi was complaining that his back hurt, which eventually lead to him not being able to walk or stand; it hurt too bad to get up. Momma knew there was something wrong and took him to the doctor. After being sent home at 1 urgent care and 1 emergency room visit, dad reached out to his old pediatrician Dr. Richard Jones who knew something was wrong just by the symptoms and advised them to go immediately to Valley Children's Hospital. At VCH, over a period of 3-hours, they ran some tests - blood test, CT scan among others, and Levi was diagnosed with Leukemia. A day later they ran the bone marrow biopsy and Levi was officially diagnosed with B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). Levi received his PICC line along with his first dose of chemo.
The family has consulted doctors, and performed independent research, and this looks to be at least a 3-year long journey full of doctor's visits, hospital stays, chemotherapy, pharmaceuticals, and so much more.
We are hoping and praying that insurance covers a good portion of Levi's medical expenses, however the Bennett family will incur a great deal of out of pocket expenses as well including deductibles, pharmacy charges for daily medication, lifestyle changes, and the cost of commuting to and from the specialists which is a 1-hour one-way drive, not to mention any other costs that are not covered by insurance.
It goes without saying that the single most important thing is Levi's health and making sure that Levi The Leukemia Warrior comes out victorious. However, a close second would be that the family is not decimated by overwhelming medical bills that are sure to start piling up.
