Leverington Cemetery Tombstone Repairs
Donation protected
This is a pre-Civil War cemetery and is family-owned. We took over the cemetery in the 40s, and with over 500 tombstones fallen down, funds to repair these are needed to bring the cemetery back to glory. I feel if we can continue to renovate, people will be less likely to do more damage. The neighborhood is passionate about the cemetery, but we don’t have the funds for all the projects that need to be done. With more funding the project below would help secure the cemetery and bring it back to its original glory.
Needs:
1. Electric
2. Security Cameras
3. Tombstone Repairs
4. New Tree on the Sidewalk
5. Wildlife Management (Ground Hogs).
Things we have repaired:
1. The antique wrought-iron fence and entrance gate
2. Tree removal and grounds maintenance
3. Shed painting
4. Garbage removal
5. Landscaping
We are working on the history and verifying that Leverington Cemetery is the oldest active cemetery in the United States. Help save and beautify this historic treasure.
