Help to continue volunteering full time

Donation protected

This campaign began as a way to try and raise funds to register as a non-profit and to pay for salaries that would allow myself and team members to continue volunteering our time to build an association with the goals of providing open-source technologies that can assist in the fight against Leukemia.  We are now a non-profit association and will be creating official crowdfunding campaigns to raise funds to pay for salaries for our team and to fund our open research and projects.

This campaign is now a personal campaign with the hopes of raising funds to help me pay for monthly utilities, services and tools that will allow me to continue volunteering full time until we can afford to put myself and other team members on full and part time salaries.

I started the Peter Moss Acute Myeloid & Lymphoblastic Leukemia AI Research Project (Website - Facebook ) in 2018 when my grandfather, Peter Moss, was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia and given a year to live. I had previous experience with using Artificial Intelligence for detecting Invasive Ductal Carcinoma (Breast Cancer) (Website  - Facebook  - Video ), and I wanted to see if I could do anything to try help people in the future that may have to face the battle against Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

We are a team of volunteers brought together through the devastating effects of leukemia.  Since 2018, we have been researching into the latest Artificial Intelligence and other modern technologies, and how they can be used in the fight against cancer, in particular, early detection. We are creating an "open source" movement for leukemia research. No patents, no proprietary data, no proprietary code. We want to continue to give our tech, research, and contribution to education directly to the people, for free.

During 2019, the team attracted researchers and developers from throughout around the globe and in addition to working on open-source technologies, we are working on a student program that allows students to work on real world medical problems with modern technologies.

Almost one year after being diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia, my grandfather passed away, a day short of 1 year exactly.  Our team remained dedicated to the fight against against leukemia in his name, and giving medical experts, researchers and students a way to contribute towards finding ways to battle Leukemia with technology.

Achievements
During 2019 our team had many accomplishments. I and Estela, one of our students from our student program at the time, demonstrated the Acute Myeloid & Lymphoblastic Leukemia Detection System (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia Detection System 2019 ) at the Intel booth at Embedded World 2019 , Nuremberg, Germany, Estela presented our project to Intel staff and executives at Intel Developer Affinity Day  at the Intel IoT Lab in Munich, and also at Code Motion Diversity In Tech  in Madrid with Intel.

Intel® Devmesh AI Spotlight Award
The Peter Moss Acute Myeloid & Lymphoblastic Leukemia AI Research Project team was awarded the Intel® Devmesh AI Spotlight Award. Our project was one of 4 projects, and 1st from Europe, awarded the new designation granted by Intel recognizing inspiring and breakthrough Artificial Intelligence projects in development from the Intel software community.

In June 2019, Estela was able to use our project as a case study in her Thesis, Applied Analytics for clinical decision support, this was a very proud moment for our team, and the type of achievement we hope to continue to support students with through our student program in the future.

In 2020 our team  has grown, and we now work on open-source modern technologies for not only Leukemia, but for COVID 19 including Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Spatial Computing, Hospital Intelligent Automation Systems, Virtual Reality  and 3D Printing .

In June 2020, we finally became an non-profit association, Asociacion De Investigacion En Inteligencia Artificial Para La Leucemia Peter Moss and are continuing to expand our team and projects. We have made partnerships with Lancaster University in the UK, whom we work together with on COVID 19 detection using Artificial Intelligence, and have plans to work together on our student program in the future. We have teamed up with Aquaai, a Robotics company from the United States to create an open-source, 3D printed robot to assist medical staff in the pandemic and other similar situations we may face in the future, by reducing the amount of time teams are exposed to contagious diseases such as COVID-19.

Why I Need Your Help?
I began volunteering full time in December 2019 when I lost my full time employment. My goal was to work as hard as possible to get us to a stage where we could register as a non-profit, and raise the funds to pay for salaries and to fund and expand our open research and projects. I hoped my severance pay and paro (A benefit Spanish residence and citizens are entitled to after full time employment of over 1 year) would support me until we became an association and became funded.

When the pandemic started and lockdown came into force, things started to become hard. My severance pay was quickly running out, in addition to paying for food and utilities such as electric, gas, water and internet, I had paid for services, hardware, marketing materials and tools that allowed me to continue building our team and projects. Much of the money raised from this crowdfunding campaign has helped pay for the same, and some of the projects we have built so far have been directly funded from donations to this campaign.

During the last few months my situation has worsened, during the pandemic I have not been able to pay all of my rent, I have had to return bills I had already paid to keep going, and I am now in a situation where I cannot pay for food, internet, electricity, gas and water at the end of the month, and am at risk of losing my home which is also our office. I have support from the City of Sabadell in the way that the electricity, gas and water companies cannot cut me off for 1 year, but the debts will continue to build and if we are not funded before 2021, I will have a lot of debt to face, I currently am in quite a large amount of debt now.

Since December I have been working almost 20 hour days to bring us the point we are now at. We now have an amazing team of medical professionals, medical students, developers, engineers and designers that have worked with me to provide many open-source and free technologies to help in the battle against Leukemia and COVID-19, and to help people learn about using modern technologies for medical use cases.

My dedication to this project, and now association remains, I want to be able to continue working like I am, building the team that I hope will one day make a real difference to someone's life. My ultimate goal is to one day open a hospital where patients can receive free treatment, and the projects we are working on now will be a part of that.

I have built the office for our association in my Sabadell City Center home, but due to financial difficulties, I face possibly losing my home,  the ability to eat, and am facing debts that continue to build. This is why I am asking for help to allow me to continue with my work until we become funded. The information I have shared here is very personal, and it was the last thing I wanted to do, I am quickly running out of time.

I hope that those that know me and how hard I have worked, and continue to work, may be able to help me overcome the financial difficulties I now face so that I can continue to dedicate my life to building the association and a team that will help change people's lives. The goal of 6000 will be to clear debts, but also to help pay monthly bills and services which we use to promote/build/support our association.

I am hoping to find 4 or 5 donators that can help my situation with small monthly donations of 50 euros a month. If I can do this, I can stop the debt from rising and will be able to eat, leaving me able to continue working and trying to raise the funds to cover my arrears.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story. And to everyone that has donated so far, thank you for believing in me, our team and our mission. We want to change to the world, but I need a little help to do that.
