Let's help Sigatoka Special School!!

As many of you already know, I'm currently living in Fiji and working as a volunteer at a number of different special education schools.
My base school, Sigatoka School for Special Education, is a very small school with only 5 teachers and 56 students. Students that attend this school have various intellectual disabilities that mean thtey can't quite keep up with the education curriculum at mainstream schools.
In the past, Sigatoka Special School has missed out on a lot of volunteer input, with their last volunteer being here in the 90s!! They occasionally get bits and pieces donated by tourists that stay at nearby resorts who want to give something back to Fiji but are still in dire need of a few essential items so that their school can improve operations.
When I asked the lovely teachers at this school what they needed most and how I could help in ways other than fulfilling my volunteer assignment objectives, the teachers all expressed a need for 3 main things:
- a washing machine so that they can assist in the washing of uniforms of students who don't have access to washing facilities in their villages;
- a white board or two for their classrooms; and
- a sewing machine for the pre-vocational girls class so that they can work on their sewing skills and move onto vocational college/gain employment at tailor shops.
While they don't need it, all of the teachers also said that a video camera would be a great addition to their school so that they can record special moments and events at school.
So, with only a few months left of my assignment, I've decided it's high time to get cracking with fundraising and raise some much-needed funds so that Sig (as I affectionately call it) can get the above items!!
