Let's Help Linda

My mom has been fighting multiple myeloma since 2002, and she has been an inspiration to so many people around her since then. She has endured countless bouts of chemotherapy, bone marrow tests, and needle pricks, and through it all, she has continued to be an amazing wife, mother, and friend to those who are blessed to be in her life. After years of treatment, her cancer finally went into remission after a successful stem cell transplant, which put her cancer to sleep for over a decade.

Unfortunately, her cancer returned with a vengeance last summer. After dozens of combinations of medications at home, her doctors decided that it was necessary to start week-long rounds of chemo at the Cleveland Clinic. After three long stays, mom's numbers were finally low enough to begin another stem cell transplant, which would be the final punch to put the cancer back into remission.

The Cleveland Clinic lined up a place for her to stay, her treatment timeline, and even a willing donor. But when the time came for her to move up to Cleveland and begin treatment, we were notified by the hospital that the insurance company denied my mother's claim, on the grounds that the treatment was too experimental. After her doctors and the hospital petitioned the insurance company's decision, we received the news that her claim was denied yet again. Now we are in the process of appealing once again, but we have no real way of knowing what the result will be.

For the time being, my mom has been placed on multiple chemotherapies, some of which are still experimental. As a result, she must pay a large copayment, sometimes amounting to over $600 a month. On top of that, she is currently recovering from 11 fractured ribs and a broken sternum, a result of her weakened bones. She is still in great spirits and trying to keep as active as she can, but without the ability to lift objects or even bend over, each day is quite the challenge.

Because of this, I have set up this GoFundMe page. I hope that we can come together to help offset the costs of my mom's treatments. She has already had to fight through so much, and she deserves a break. My goal is to raise enough to cover her copaymentss for a year and the taxes for the donations. Any amount of help is very much appreciated, including prayers and well-wishes.
